About the country
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (commonly known as the United Kingdom, the UK, or Britain) is a sovereign state located off the northwestern coast of continental Europe. UK is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the English Channel and the Irish Sea. The largest island, Great Britain, is linked to France by the Channel Tunnel. UK has fourteen overseas territories.

Why UK
UK universities provide internationally recognized education with highest standards. There are currently over 50,000 postgraduate courses being taught and research opportunities to pick from.

Study at UK is recognized for its:
  • Academic Excellence
  • Value for Money
The quality of a university's teaching and its general facilities are assessed by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). Research standards are examined by the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), which publishes its findings every five years. The eminence of UK degrees is the main reason why lots of people go to the UK for study. An added aspect for study is value for money. Unlike the equivalent programs in the United States or Australia, most UK Masters programs can be completed in one year. UK universities are used to looking after the welfare of non-UK students and have well-developed support services and social networks on campus. Students going to the UK to pursue a full-time course of study of not less than six months duration will be fully entitled to free NHS hospital treatment in England. And for the students who study in the UK for less than six months from countries with which the UK holds bilateral healthcare agreements will only be entitled to free NHS hospital treatment that is needed promptly for a condition that arose after your arrival in the UK.

Each of the countries of the United Kingdom has a separate education system with power over education devolved to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Education in UK is the responsibility of the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families and the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills, though the day to day administration and funding of state schools is the responsibility of Local Authorities. Education is mandatory from ages five to sixteen. The majority of children are educated in state-sector schools, only a small proportion of which select on the grounds of academic ability. UK has some of the top universities in the world; University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Imperial College London and University College London.
Financing an international education is always difficult. The best approach includes lots of preparation, careful analysis of your budget, and hard work in researching and applying for scholarships. The majority of students who come to study in the UK pay for their courses privately, but study can be costly and many students need to apply for scholarships or grants. The British government and other UK organisations provide a number of scholarships and awards to help international students to study in the UK. It is very essential for any student to have all financial support arranged before going to the UK, as it is tremendously hard to find more funding once landed in UK.

To make a visa or entry clearance application to fly UK, it is needed to show that the student has enough money for his/her tuition fees, living expenses, accommodation and other costs. Visa applications must be submitted at Visa Application Centre(s) in person as biometrics details of the student will be collected at the same time. Visa Applications will be processed and decided by UK Border Agency staff. Visa processing time depends on which visa type you have applied for. Visa will be granted for the eligible candidates for those wishing to enter the UK for study, based on Points-based system. Visa fee is payable at the visa office usually in local currency. A fee is charged to pay for the cost of processing your application and for that reason it is not refundable.

UK has its own teaching methods that differ from country to country. With their unique teaching methods they aim to encourage independent-thinking and confidence of the students. Teaching methods in UK include discussions, games, problem- solving, projects, practical work, peer tutoring, computer-assisted learning and simulations. Many UK universities and colleges have specialist international advisers whose job is to provide support for international students. They also arrange orientation or induction programs for new students at the beginning of the academic session.

A student flying to UK to study is typically allowed to work up to 20 hours a week during school term, and up to full-time when school is out of term. After the completion of graduation in UK, a student has several options to choose the right path but is not always an easy thing to do. The most common course for most international students is to look for work in the UK.
